BAINES, CHARLES JOSEPH "JOE" ANDERSON, RUTH AILEEN BOWMAN died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at her home. She was born in Knoxville on August 16, 1923, and was the only child of Frank Bowman, a native of Roane County, and Melvina Ann Russell Bowman, native of Claiborne County, Tenn. She was married from 1946 to 1977, to Thurman Bryan Anderson, a native of Jackson County, Tenn. She attended the public schools in Knoxville, (Oakwood, Christenberry, and Knoxville High), and was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church. She is survived by her three children, Frank, Sandra Lang, and Madge Anderson.

HAYNES, HAROLD "HAL" L. age 63, of Wears Valley, an aviator and American patriot, passed away Tuesday evening, April 24, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, in Knoxville. Hal was a graduate of Halls High School and was currently a full-time, pre-law student at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burnett D. and Maude R.
Haynes. Hal is survived by his wife, Helen M. Haynes; daughter, Beckie Haynes and her partner, Dennis Rich; daughter, Renee Rockefeller and her husband, Paul and daughter Sloane; son, Dan Haynes and his wife Carol, and three children, Lori, Jodi, and Les Center. He is also survived by a half-sister, Marjorie Stricker of Walnut Creek, Calif. HUNTER, JACKSON AKERS age 94, Mascot, passed away Monday morning, April 23, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical a -day tour of biblical sites. Church leader Archbishop Christodoulos has made repeated appeals for calm during the papal visit, the first time a pope has traveled to Greece in 1,291 years.
Ultra-religious groups, furious at the church's decision to invite the pope, have promised to stage street demonstrations during the visit of the pope. "This demonstration is taking place because we are determinedly opposed to the visit of the pope to our Orthodox Greece," said Father Maximos, one of the organizers. HUTSON, WILLIAM M.D. the last surviving original co-author of the Great Smoky Mountain Wildflower Book, along with Carlos Campbell and Dr. Aaron Sharp, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2001, in Northbrook, Ill. Dr. Hutson was born to Grace Truman Whitlock Hutson and Rev.
Andrew Carter Hutson on November 30, 1913, at his maternal grandparents farm in Grainger County, Tenn. Dr. Hutson was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, University of North Carolina, and Northwestern University Medical School, and served in the Navy in both World War Il and Korea. RODERICK, DANIEL ASHLEY (D.A.) age 84, of New Market, passed away 10:29 a.m. Tuesday morning, April 24, 2001, at his home. He was a member current trustee of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and a member of the Christian Service Sunday School Class. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the 7th Armored Division. He was captured during the Battle of the Bulge on January 5, 1945, and remained a POW until the end of the War.
He was a Charter Member and served on the Board of Directors of the Smoky Mountain Chapter of Ex-POW and was a member of the DAV and VFW. He worked at Phillips Electronics and had a small farm in Jefferson County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Jennie Roderick. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Willie Mae Bailey Roderick of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Janie and Danny Teams of Knoxville, and Nancy and David Clifton of Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota; grandson, Brian Clifton; granddaughters, Danielle Teams and Emily Clifton; sisters, Cleo Rice of South Carolina and Mary Ruth Bull of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Ailordale Baptist Church, and a retired employee of American Sportswear. Survivors: husband, Charles H. (Bud) Taylor of Washburn; step children, Charlene Redmond of Ohio, Bonnie Bates and Mary Ann Wynn, both ing back as far as the 1204 sacking of Constantinople by crusaders. The city, now Istanbul, was then the seat of the Orthodox Byzantine empire. Many protesters clutched copies of the New Testament and signs reading "Out with the twohorned monster, the pope." PRINGLE, ROY of Maryville, passed away at the family home, Friday, April 20, 2001. Roy worked for Newell Office Products, and sold Real Estate since moving to Maryville in 1993. Roy was a Past President of the Royal Oaks Villa Association, and was on the Board of the Royal Oaks Property Owners Association. He is survived by his wife, Carol; three daughters, and one son of California. A brother, David of Colorado; eight grandchildren, and a cousin, Ann, all of California, and three nephews.
