FC Köln are back in international waters for the first time in 5 years and have just received the draw for their first game. Fehérvár FC of Hungary will face FC Petrocub-Hincesti of Moldova to see who will face the Billy Goats. The home and away matches will take place on August 18 and 25 for Steffen Baumgart’s team.
After the draw, Baumgart added: “Both interesting tasks that are difficult. Nevertheless, we believe we can reach the group stage… and that should also be our goal. Now we have to wait and see. which of the two teams progress.”
Last season, UEFA gave €2.8 million to each team that qualified for the group stage. After the defeat on penalty against Jahn Regensburg in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, Cologne has only 2 competitions to deal with. They also hope to keep Anthony Modeste, who is in Dortmund’s sights for a possible loan.
