Kvarnstrom, Moldovan Finish Top 15, Buckeyes finished 5th at Big Tens – Ohio State Buckeyes
CARMEL, Ind. – Led by three individual Top 20s, Ohio State took fifth place Sunday at the Big Ten Championships at Crooked Stick in Carmel, Indiana. The Buckeyes carded their best round of the championship with a 294 to jump one place in the final standings.
Individually, graduate Felix Kvarnstrom led the team with a 10e place the finish to par 8 on. Kvarnstrom had three birdies and four bogeys on his last 1 of 73 lap.
Freshman Maxwell Moldovan and Adam Wallin also had impressive performances in their first Big Ten Championships. Moldovan tied for 13e at 9 over while Wallin completed a return shot at 10 over and tied for 18e. Wallin rolled it over on Sunday. He birdied three in a row on holes two, three and four to start the round, then tied on the difficult back nine to complete a 2-under 70 final round. It was tied for the second-most round. low of the day and it was the low turn of the tournament for the Buckeyes.
Elis Svard capped her Big Ten tournament with a birdie on the difficult 18e hole to post a final round 76. There were only 13 birdies in all tournaments on the 18the hole that played very difficult in windy conditions.
Jackson Chandler completed the score for the Buckeyes on Sunday with an 8 of 80. He finished the event with a tie 48e.
The final streak of holes 17 and 18 gave players trouble all weekend and the Buckeyes were no different. Of the scores in the first two rounds, Ohio State was a combined 15-over on the last two holes only. But on Sunday, the count scores were only one over, including Svard’s birdie of 18.
The Buckeyes will now wait to find out their NCAA championship fate this week. The NCAA Selection will air live on the Golf Channel at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 5.
