Milestone for better institutional capacity in financial control by the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Moldova

The Council of Europe launched its expert support to the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Moldova (CEC) in the process of developing a methodological framework for the activity of the new Division of Monitoring and financial control.
The activity will provide workable guidelines for the exercise of political party and election campaign finance oversight functions in accordance with good international standards in this regard.
Thus, the CEC will be able to strengthen its functional and institutional capacities to better exercise control and ensure compliance with the legal provisions relating to the financing of the current activity of political parties and electoral campaigns. This activity intertwines harmoniously with the currently discussed amendments to the electoral legislation of the Republic of Moldova on how to strengthen the capacities of the CEC to monitor the issue in question.
This action builds on the long-standing recommendations of the international election observation missions addressed to the Moldovan authorities and on the previous efforts of the Council of Europe in the field of electoral co-operation.
This activity is funded and implemented by the Council of Europe Project Improving electoral practice in the Republic of Moldova, Phase II.
